"Called at Sixteen, a Lifetime of
Service"
Thumbing through the 1971 Huntingdon
College yearbook, the name Dee Koza appears over and over again. Senior
Favorite, SGA Senator, President of the Christian Council, Who's Who in
American Colleges and Universities, you name it, she was involved. At the
height of the Vietnam War, Dee Koza was named Homecoming Queen. "The year
I served as Homecoming Queen was to my knowledge the only year in which there
was a small luncheon in the Dining Room in lieu of the events on the Green. We
all wore street dresses and I made a short speech relating the desire of the
court to not have a large coronation during a time where our country was at
war-both in Vietnam and torn apart at home as well."
A child of a navy pilot, Dee lived
throughout the United States until her father's retirement in Dothan, Alabama.
Dee first felt called into educational ministry at the age of sixteen. She
received her B.S. from Huntingdon in Religion/Christian Education in 1971. She
went on to earn her Master's Degree in Religious Education from Union
Seminary/Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond Virginia in
1976.
Dee has served eight local Presbyterian
churches in her career, and recently retired as Director of Educational
Ministries of Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Dothan, Alabama. She is
particularly proud of her published works, including To Move in Faith;
People of Promise; Circle of Wholeness; Monday Connection, a Harper/Row Study
Guide; PYC Program Guides, Sr. Highs; and numerous articles in Counseling
and Educational periodicals. Her latest works have just been completed for the
denomination. They are: a study guide for the Resolution on Violence Faith,
and Terrorism (PCUSA); Peace Knows No Season - In Celebration of 25th
Anniversary of Peacemaking: A Believers Calling.
Dee is well
known as a national keynote speaker in the areas of Faith Development, The Use
of Narrative in Worship, Officer Training, Church Development, and Youth
Ministry. She has conducted over 100 workshops, retreats, and events during her
career, and continues to serve as a Long Distance Professor for Defiance
College in Ohio.
